Congratulations!
We are so excited that you have decided to make Jesus your Lord and savior! This is the single most important decision you will EVER make in your life! Which is why we will give you a few suggestions to truly help you thrive and grow in your relationship with the Lord moving forward. Whether you have just received Jesus for the very first time, or are rededicating your life to Him, we hope to equip you with some essential spiritual tools that will help stay close to Jesus.
1. What you need to know: Salvation cannot be Earned!
First, you need to know that it is NOT by good deeds that you are saved. In other words, there’s nothing that you and I can do to earn our way to heaven. It’s only made possible
because God sent His One and only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to face the judgment we deserved because of our sin that has separated us from God. John 3:16 NKJV says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Salvation is only made possible by the shed blood of Jesus on Calvary’s cross and there is no way that we could earn it. It’s only by faith in Jesus Christ alone that we are saved and it is a free gift that does not require our good works, but only faith in Jesus. Ephesians 2:8 NKJV says “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,”
2. Pray Daily
Your Heavenly Father is all about relationships. He sent His son,Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for you, so that He could have a relationship with you. Relationships take time and lots of conversation. Prayer is a way that we communicate with the Lord daily. It is important to talk to the Lord and listen for Him to speak to your heart, as He wants to give you direction in every aspect of your life. The scripture is clear that the Lord rewards those who have a private relationship with Him. “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” Matthew 6:6 NKJV
3. Read God's Word Daily
Reading God's Word gives:
1. Spiritual food. Reading the Word of God will strengthen you spiritually. Just like your natural body needs physical food, your spirit needs spiritual food. The Bible says “But He (Jesus) answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”” Matthew 4:4 NKJV.
2. Wisdom & Direction. The written Word of God (The Bible) is the primary way that God speaks to and directs His people. It is essential for every believer to take a few moments a day to read God's word for daily direction.
3. Spiritual Weapons. The Bible calls the Word of God the Sword of the Spirit - Ephesians 6. Meaning, it is what God has given us to fight every temptation and spiritual battle. When Jesus was being tempted in the wilderness, He fought the devil with the word of God. Matthew 4:1-10. God’s Word is a weapon for us to use to overcome and triumph, every single day in our relationship with the Lord.
4. Baptism
Water Baptism
Baptism has been a part of church history for centuries. Starting in the ministry of Jesus and John the Baptist. Baptism is an outward sign that you are dying to your old life of sin and being born again by the Spirit of God! It is also a command, “..., “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:38 NKJV
Here at Ascension Christian Center, we conduct regular baptisms. Please email us if you are interested or would like to learn more about it.

Holy Spirit Baptism
Seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit:
It is very important that we understand that we, in of ourselves, do not have the power to live for Jesus. It takes the Power of the Holy Spirit. When Jesus was raised from the dead, He commanded the disciples to wait for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. “..., but to wait for the Promise of the Father..., but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit...”Acts 1:4-5 NKJV
Before the disciples went to the upper room to receive the Holy Spirit they lacked an important key in God's kingdom: the Baptism of the Holy Spirit! After Acts chapter 2, they became powerful witnesses for Jesus because of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. This is available to every believer! Seeking to be filled and staying filled with The Holy Spirit is an essential key in staying close to Jesus. The Lord wants us to have power for service in our families, work places, schools and churches to bring Him glory. “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, to the end of the earth.”” Acts 1:8 NKJV
5. Get plugged into a church
Connect with a local bible believing church who loves Jesus. It is imperative that you link arms with a local body of believers that will walk alongside you in your journey with Christ, hold you accountable and pray for you as well as be there for you in your time of need. It’s also important that you serve in a local community as it's important to receive and to serve the local church. The scripture encourages us not to fall into “forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25 NKJV. Meaning, we should gather regularly to worship God collectively, learn from the Scriptures, grow in our relationship with Jesus, and activate your gifting. This will give you the opportunity to grow and stay connected to a community.
6. Share Jesus with others
Another important step is telling others what Jesus has done for you. “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” Romans 10:14 NKJV
Your personal testimony is one of the most powerful tools when sharing the gospel. At times, you may feel you do not have the words to communicate to others what He has done, but Jesus Himself tells us that the Holy Spirit will give us the words when we need them. “For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” Luke 12:12 NKJV
7. Serve
The church as a whole exists to help meet the spiritual needs of people. It is also a place where the Lord wants to utilize the gifts that He’s put inside of you to serve others. There are several ways that you can serve this local community. Listed at point 8 are several ways that you can get plugged in. However there are several volunteer opportunities as well.
